Evaluation: Audience Feedback

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

I spoke to media and non-media students and asked them for their feedback on my opening sequence. I received a range of feedback and from this, it is evident that I took my rough cut feedback and worked on it to the best of my ability.

Evaluation: Q1) in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Q2) how does your media product represent particular social groups?

Ways in which characters are portrayedpresented to the audience
In teen films we see that representation is used to introduce the character

Due to our predjustice's people in society feel that CHEERLEADERS are stupid, blonde overconfident 'bitches' who feel that by dressing prerogative can get them everywhere

Geeks - Nerds representation in teen film would be shown as quiet people who wear glasses and known for being pushovers from the bullies, jocks and cheerleaders

Jocks- Baseball jackets with hats and jeans represented to be the most popular people in the whole school and get a lot of attention from ladies

Teen social groups that we represented in our film openings (refer to stereotype)

The It Girls- In urban drama the girls are mostly represented to be rude and mean so we conveyed with this stereotype in our film opening which allows to show a certain genre in conventions in a teen film

Bully- Bullying has been represented in Mean Girls where we see the new girl finds it hard to fit in with the other girls this is the main topic in our film opening as we agree with the stereotypes portrayed in teen films.

Binary oppositions between characters in our film opening/ Mean Girls/ St Trinians
Bullies- Group of girls vs our teen film opening two girls (ethnicity was the same)
Means Girls is based inside a school vs our teen film opening where it based between a estate and a school.
St Trinians is shown to wear a school uniform vs our film teen opening where we see the bullies are shown to be wearing the same uniform but add their own twists which elaborates their different character and personality in the teen film opening.

Have you represented them in a positive or negative aspect (relate to real media)
In our film opening we have represented the two bullies in a negative aspect this was expected of them as bullies are expected to act a of a higher  superior towards others as the media represents bullies in films in this manner in doing so we have conveyed the convention themes as we have used inspiration from other movies to grasp the roles of our characters

Evaluation: Q3) what kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Evaluation: Q4) who would be the audience for your media product?

Evaluation: Q5) how did you attract/address your audience?

Evaluation: Q6) what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Evaluation: Q7 ) what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from your preliminary to the full product?

In the process:

Editing - Music

MUSIC

Once I had trimmed all my shots completely and added in the bits I needed to add, I came to the realisation, that the songs/instrumentals we had originally agreed on no longer fitted our Opening.
This meant another mission to the land of Creative Commons.

We had to go on a search for a different instrumental hat would fit our opening.

After quite a while of searching we finally found one which we felt fitted our Opening really well. Phew.

Our final decision for our sound track : Emotional hip hop piano instrumental

Editing - Sound Effects

SOUND EFFECTS

The search for the right sound effects to match our opening was indeed a struggle, luckily I had created a lot of foley sound while on set which had come into my advantage as the sounds I couldn't find happened to be the ones I had recorded myself while out on location.

The part of adding the sound effects in that I struggled with the most was getting the footsteps in at the exact point and stopping it when needed, but other than that doing the sound effects had gone really smoothly for me.

I think at the end of the day the sound effects I found/used did the job correctly.

Day Three- Filming

Day Three Filming :

For Day Three filming we decided as a group to focus on the parts which would show the background information to our opening scene ; this being our flashbacks of the our main character Shannon , played by Sanaa who was in the past also bullied as she was in the film .

To show this , we filmed varies extreme close ups , close ups and medium shots which will reveal the bullying that Sanaa goes through , such as filming Sanaa being hit , kicked , her hair being pulled , also embedding her feelings through using different angles such as high and low angles .

My feelings on the Rough Cut

ROUGH CUT EVALUATION

I felt that all in all the rough cut had gone quite well as it gave me a basic foundation and allowed me to think of way to better my opening.

What went well:

  • I was able to get my scenes in the correct order and trim one or two of them a tiny bit to stop them from being too long.
  • When I removed all the sound it gave me a better stepping stone for adding in more foley/sound effects along with re inputting the sound I had removed.

What went wrong:

  • The shots were so long they even made me bored even though I know the reason I left them like that.
  • I feel more variety of shots are needed.

All in all I feel the rough cut did its job and is good though there is much to improve for the real/final version of the opening.

Rough Cut feedback

I showed our Rough Cut to different people and asked for their feedback.

Here is one of the responses I received:

Most of the responses I received were similar to this; overall I had positive feedback, I have been advised to simply speed up the shots and make them more snappy rather than allowing them to go on and on.

That feeling of accomplishment you get when you finish your rough cut, but then loose when you realise that you still have a long way to go until you're completely finished.
That's how I felt when I finished the rough cut.

Ident Distribution Blog

Ident Distribution

In order to create an approiate Ident we discussed what we thought would properly illsurate our genre which was Teen Drama , the Ident we have decided as a group to choose is a Ink spillage which will roam around the screen , we felt that is best conveyed our genre as it showed an urban look to our opening , also the fast movements conntate to the reality of the youth of today . As well as this we had to create another Ident that represented our production company which we labeled 'urban motions' we labeled it urban motions because we felt that it would communicate to our viewers the location of our film opening. To do this , we embodied these ideas and used the software Motions to create our Ident . Before using Motions , we watched a tutorial in which we learnt how to navigate our way around using it.

 How to use Motion:

1. Get Project properties correct

Locating properties is simple , Motions opens to an blank black screen in which you can set your Idents on , from this right click on the scrren and then click on Project Properties which allows you to manage your timing spam and also fits your ident to the size required .

2. Choose animation from particle emitters:

To choose an animation , click on Library , then click Particle Emitters , we will instantly guide you to the different and variety effects which could be used on a Ident .

 3. Sort out its properties(3d):

After placing your choosen Effects for your Ident , you can now using the properties option next to the effect to place where you would want to put it .

 4. Press record
When pressing record , you are recording your ident to be emported to our Opening scene , which is on Final Cut Pro

How we are going?:

Rough cut of our film opening-Feedback

Feedback on our rough cut film opening.
Throughout the editing process we were able to enquirer about the progress of our film opening from our peers who our film opening is aimed at, as well as our teachers. this we felt was extremely helpful as it allowed us to improve our film opening through final cut pro properly with a better understanding of what we needed to do. Despite the various constructive feedback we received from our target audience, we decided to go to our teacher for her opinion on the work we were doing and this is what she had to say about it:
  • we needed to pick up the pace of our editing
  • we had too many mid shots as well as long shots and needed to incorporate more close ups of Sanaa  our main character.
we took on this advice and tried to improve these things as much as we could.

Feelings about editing

DAY ONE

Even though it has only been one day I feel the editing is going really well and all the things I have learned in previous lessons are really coming in handy. The rules I had learned in class made it easier for me to decide which shots out of all the shots we had filmed fitted best in our opening at different stages.

Editing of Opening Scene

Editing :

Now that we have all our shots and angles imported in Final Cut Pro we can finally start editing our opening scene , here are some videos about our progress :
